“Invisible Wounds such as PTSD more than often goes unnoticed, mainly because of the stigma attached to it. Many Veterans leave the service not even realizing they have PTSD, or if they do, they never sought out treatment due to fear of destroying their careers. Some do receive treatment yet still cannot be healed. The Department of Veteran Affairs does recognize PTSD but does not recognize the struggle someone goes through with this illness. Too many of these Veterans have lost the battle with this illness which resulted in Suicide. This is an illness that was a direct result from their military service yet still goes un-recognized. We recognize this death as a direct result of their military service, and we recognize the struggles of the families that were left behind. The Teal Flag Project not only spreads awareness for PTSD, but it also shows those families that they are not alone. We also help make sense of the chaos that is now going through their minds. Many of those families find it very difficult to understand the why behind their loss.
